TotT – Sancho Panza Belicosos

Written by feltedhat on . Posted in Cuban Cigar Review

In January we met up for another Tasting of the Titans. Unfortunately one of the members could not make it so we were only 3. So here goes a get well soon to our fellow titan. Hope you can join the next time again. This time we smoked an excellent Sancho Panza Belicosos from 2001. And yes with this I already gave it away, the cigar was really good!

Sancho Panza Belicosos

I said before that I really like the marca Sancho Panza with its true tobacco taste and yet giving that salty sensation. This brand really starts to be one of my favorites as not only do I like the taste if not the line up really has classic vitolas that I really appreciate a lot. Now some of you might say that everything around the year 2000 is problematic as this was the time when everyone really was upset by the quality. But again this cigar proofed that this ‘area’ really is not that bad at all. On the contrary I sometimes can not help myself to think that this was all hyped up too much. This Belicosos which is besides the Bolivar version my favorite one really did not disappoint any of the smokers this night and I personally was pleasantly surprised to find some floral notes in mine. Very nice smoke indeed! Do see the individual notes below as well.

After the ‘official’ tasting we were treated to another Sancho Panza, a Bachilleres from 1998 if I recall correctly. The Petit Corona from Sancho Panza really showed that it comes out of the same stable and due to its format the flavors are more ‘compressed’ and intense. Really excellent smoke as well and I guess I’m save to say that we had a very pleasant Sancho Panza evening. đŸ™‚

Over the time it kind of became a tradition that apart from the cigars somebody brings a drink or some food to enjoy as well. So my post would not be complete without mentioning the Whisky injected and then smoked sausages. I really enjoyed these as this you cannot bought and they were delicately made. A real treat as well.

I would like to thank the tasting panel and Urs Portmann for all the cigars that were smoked that night, their time, hospitality and for the great evening spend with them! Hope we will meet up soon again!

Ramon Allones Belicosos 2005

Arguably the first Edicion Regionales. Released 2005 only for the UK. Sadly later ERs came in the same size, so it lost a bit of exclusivity in my eyes, but this release was excellent stuff back then even when smoked young.

Seven years later the example smoked still is very complex and delivers RA magic. Even though I feel that the cigar smoked was somehow in transition from being a young cigar to becoming an aged one.

If you have this cigar smoke one now to decide whether to let them rest more or not.

Bolivar Belicosos Finos

Bolivar Belicosos Finos – what a great cigar. I’ll spare you with all the description of the marca and how great this is. But I have to admit that this is one of the cigars where the blend change – becoming more accessible – is very noticable. Not complayning, just stating. Great smoke!
