Cinnamon rolls with a twist

Had way to many eggs in the fridge so it was necessary to make some baking. Since I love the sight of those cinnamon rolls I thought I am going to share a picture or two together with the recipe.

Make a dough with

  • 1000g flour
  • 100g sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 40 – 45g fresh yeast
  • 100g butter (melted)
  • 400ml milk
  • 2 eggs

and let it rest for half an hour (dough should not stick to your hands and be quite solid). Then roll it out as a big rectangular square on a flat surface. Spread to following mixture evenly on the dough:

  • 150g melted butter
  • 150g sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon of powdered cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of powdered cardamon (= the twist)
  • 100 to 200g ground almonds or hazelnut – depending on taste

Roll up the dough lengthwise to create a long sausage looking roll and cut the role into even little peaces. Place those little rolls in a container not worrying if they do not fill out every corner as the will grow bigger in the oven.


  • 1 stirred egg

over the rolls as glazing and put the whole thing for approx. 30 minutes into the pre-heated oven at 180 degrees Celsius.

They are best when you can eat them still warm and can be accompanied by a good Latte!
